By Dr. Jerry Falwell
Here I go again! I am today launching a campaign to enlist the first one million charter members of The Moral Majority Coalition, a 21st Century Moral Majority. I have a plastic-type TMMC billfold-sized charter membership card for all who enlist at our website: www.faithandvalues.us. There is no charge for membership.
However, because we need immediate funds to launch TMMC, I am asking readers to consider making a secure-online credit card contribution of $25 or more at www.faithandvalues.us. Your gift will assist us in also launching a nationwide voter registration campaign designed to bring millions more new “faith and values” voters to the polls in 2006 and 2008. In appreciation for your gift of $25 or more, we will send you the TMMC Charter Membership Card, The Moral Majority Coalition Call-To-Action Information Packet and two “I Vote Christian” window statics.
I’m Finishing What I Started 25 Years Ago
My first challenge in 1979 when I founded the Moral Majority was to recruit pastors and laypeople who would help me energize, inform and mobilize religious conservatives for social and political activism. Our platform was clearly defined. We were pro-life, pro-family, pro-Israel and committed to strong national defense.
Our first priorities were voter registration and the selection of a “champion” to support for the presidency in November 1980. We organized quickly in all 50 states, eventually enlisting about 100,000 pastors, priests, a few rabbis and millions of grassroots Americans around our agenda. We chose Ronald Reagan in 1980 as our flag bearer and we were “off to the races.”
The rest is history. Ronald Reagan was elected. Twelve liberal senators were unseated. The national media declared that the “religious right” was born. Faith and family social issues became front burner political issues, with Roe vs. Wade in our crosshairs from Day One. Thousands of evangelical pastors have since joined the ranks of “salt ministry” leadership.
Many Champions Have Provided Leadership
During the past quarter century, courageous and brilliant evangelical mega-leaders like Pat Robertson, James Dobson, D. James Kennedy, Tim and Bev LaHaye, Franklin Graham, Gary Bauer, Ralph Reed, Mathew Staver, Jay Sekulow, Don Wildmon, Janet Parshall, John Hagee, Charles Stanley, Adrian Rogers, Rick Scarborough, Rod Parsley, David Cerullo and others have provided powerful influence inside the Christian camp.
More than 25 years have passed since the Moral Majority was born. The fruit of our never-ending labors was blessed by God and became obvious to the world on November 2, 2004 when more than 30 million “faith and values” voters went to the polls and made the difference in America.
The battle is not over by any means. We have thrown down the gauntlet. The left is furious. Everyone now knows that the stage is set for the church of Jesus Christ to turn this nation back to the faith of our fathers and the Judeo-Christian ethic. New Supreme Court justices can overturn Roe vs. Wade. The Federal Marriage Amendment to the U.S. Constitution can forever define the family as one man married to one woman. Any senator who opposes this FMA could face the same fate Sen. Tom Daschle experienced. I truly believe we can bring 40 million “faith and values” voters to the polls in 2008 to assure that Sen. Hillary Clinton, or someone of her ilk, will never be president of this nation. But, I need one million new charter members of TFVC immediately.
Seven Decades in My Rear View Mirror
